The success of television juggernaut Heroes has taken teenage star Hayden Panettiere by surprise, and she now likens her existence to that of shark bait.
Considered a key bridge between network television and on-line broadcasting, “Heroes” has managed to create buzz in countries where it hasn’t even aired.
Tabloid reporters are savvy, too. Hayden Panettiere — who plays the show’s cheerleader, Claire — can’t leave her home without photographers chronicling every move. “You’re like shark bait,” she says. “Being a young female in Hollywood is no easy task.”
“You never expect this kind of success,” Panettiere says. “When you look back, you think, ‘If I had gotten that role, I wouldn’t be where I am now.’ ‘Heroes’ opened the door…and I wouldn’t trade it for anything.”
Panettiere has been able to capitalize on her “Heroes” success. She recorded an album during the show’s first season and is weighing movie offers.
Being a young female anywhere is no easy task, really. I didn’t grow up in Hollywood, but I’m still bitter about the fact that I had to rework my prom dress from one I found in a thrift shop, only to be stuck going with Duckie. And that time that Blaine totally blew me off because I was from the wrong side of the tracks. Oh, and the way my dad wouldn’t get a job. Wait. Maybe that wasn’t me. Still, James Spader was such a dick!
