Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes were denied entrance into a club in St. Tropez. Was it because the club owners were afraid the couple would try to dance again, and embarrass the other patrons? Oh, probably.

He’s huge in Hollywood but it seems Tom Cruise is only a very small star in France.

The actor, 45, and wife Katie Holmes, 28, were left fuming after being turned away from a St Tropez nightclub in front of dozens of onlookers.

Tom and Katie turned up at the super-hip venue on Friday at 11pm.

While Katie looked suitably sexy in a little black number, Tom drew a few unflattering gasps in his naff blue jumper. Mmm, not a good start mate.

The bouncers then refused them entry.

Nonetheless, the actor’s security started begging: “Are you serious? It’s Tom Cruise.” But the heavies were having none of it, telling Tom’s people: “Non, non, non!”

A club source told us: “The VIP area was full and the management weren’t willing to move the guests already there to make room for Tom.

Tom turned on his heel and walked off with Katie scampering after him.

Things got worse for Tom, who skulked off to the VIP Room club. Despite owner Jean Roch whisking them over to a VIP table, the pair ordered one small bottle of Dom Perignon and called it a night after barely touching their glasses. A club source said: “Tom looked really out of place among all the clubbers with glowsticks dancing away to house tunes. He sat there tapping his foot nervously to the music and couldn’t get out of there fast enough.”

While it’s always fun to read about celebrities being denied things they want, I can’t help but be a little disappointed that the bouncer missed the opportunity to tell Tom “I’m sorry, but you have to be this tall to get in.” while holding his hand right over Tom’s wee little head.
