Hours before Lindsay Lohan’s first DUI arrest in the last few months, the actress was interviewed by Elle and told them how she was a responsible woman who would never drink and drive.

Just 36 hours before her first DUI bust on Sunset Blvd., and two months before the second, Lindsay Lohan declared herself a responsible young woman who would never get wasted.

It was late May and it was her last big interview - a sit-down with Elle magazine - before all the wild-child troubles really went into high gear. LiLo was kvetching about being constantly hounded by the paparazzi.

“They’re looking for me, to like trip, so they can be like, ‘Oh Lindsay’s wasted and driving drunk.’ And that’s not it. I wouldn’t violate. … I’m much more responsible than that.”

Eat your words, Linds. Eat them right up.

The following night, on May 26, she was arrested for driving under the influence when her car crashed; cops found she had cocaine with her. Her second drunken driving/cocaine bust came the morning of July 24 after a high-speed chase in Santa Monica, Calif. The September issue of Elle hits newsstands Tuesday.
