In a surprise to everyone but Steve Martin and his new wife, Anne Stringfield, the pair were married over the weekend.

“The ‘Father of the Bride’ actor tied the knot with the former New Yorker journalist at his Los Angeles home.

Guests at the wedding - who included Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton and Eugene Levy - were not informed of the nuptials and had instead been told they would be attending an intimate dinner party.

Nebraska Senator Bob Kerry, Martin’s long-time friend, conducted the ceremony, while the best man was ‘Saturday Night Live’ producer Lorne Michaels.

Martin and 35-year-old Stringfield - who currently writes for America’s prestigious Vogue magazine - started dating in December 2002.”

Stringfield is 26 years younger than Martin, so I say good for Steve. This is one wedding I’d have loved to attend. You just know that Lorne scripted the whole thing, and that at the reception, Steve and Tom were just a couple of wild and crazy guys. Eugene Levy would dance, with his two left feet. And who knew Bob Kerry could legally marry people? Is that one of the perks of being a Senator?
