Victoria Beckham’s “Coming To America” special aired last night, and was thoroughly trashed by the critics.
Victoria Beckham’s plans to win over America with her reality TV show appear to have backfired.
The fly-on-the-wall documentary, which will be screened tonight on ITV1, has been panned by the critics, with one reviewer comparing the show to watching mould growing on cheese.
New York Times reviewer Alessandra Stanley compared the programme to a website called cheddarvision.tv, where cheese fans can watch mould grow on a truckle of West Country cheddar via a webcam.
She said: “Watching Victoria Beckham: Coming to America is a little like that site - although the cheddar probably has an ounce or two on Mrs Beckham, who is also famous for being thin but with very large breasts.
The New York Post’s Linda Stasi described the show as “an orgy of self-indulgence” and said: “NBC should get down on its knees and give a giant thanks that soccer star David Beckham was called back to Europe before it could finish filming his relentlessly self-promoting wife’s reality series.
You know what would’ve helped? If instead of footage of Posh coming to America, she could have had Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall star in it, maybe as a prince and his personal assistant. Eddie Murphy could decide he doesn’t want an arranged marriage, so he travels from Zamunda to Queens, NY to find a wife. Maybe he can find her working in a fast food restaurant, and she’ll love him for who he is, not the fact that he’s a prince. That would have made her show more palatable.
